Workplace air monitoring

Ensuring you meet Health & Safety regulations so we can all breathe easier

In order to comply with the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Regulations 2002 (as amended) there may be a requirement to carry out workplace air monitoring.

Workplace air monitoring is appropriate in a number of instances including:

  • for COSHH assessment, to help in selecting the right controls
  • where there is a serious risk to health from inhalation of the substance in use
  • to check that exposure limits are not exceeded
  • to check the effectiveness of new or existing exposure controls
  • to assist in the selection of respiratory protection
  • to assess the impact on exposure of changes in process or production
  • to highlight any requirements for health surveillance or
  • following the issuing of an ‘Improvement Notice’ requiring monitoring.
