In order to comply with the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Regulations 2002 (as amended) there may be a requirement to carry out workplace air monitoring.
Workplace air monitoring is appropriate in a number of instances including:
- for COSHH assessment, to help in selecting the right controls
- where there is a serious risk to health from inhalation of the substance in use
- to check that exposure limits are not exceeded
- to check the effectiveness of new or existing exposure controls
- to assist in the selection of respiratory protection
- to assess the impact on exposure of changes in process or production
- to highlight any requirements for health surveillance or
- following the issuing of an ‘Improvement Notice’ requiring monitoring.
