Vibration assessment

Not always good vibrations

The Control of Vibration at Work Regulations 2005 (the Vibration Regulations), which were implimented in July 2005 place a number of duties on employers who carry out work which is liable to expose any employees to vibration, be that hand-arm vibration or whole body vibration. The requirements of the Regulations are:

  • Carry out an assessment of the vibration risk and record the findings
  • Take action to reduce vibration exposure
  • Ensure that legal limits on vibration exposure are not exceeded (daily exposure action value (EAV) or daily exposure limit value (ELV)
  • Provide information and training to employees on health risks and the actions required to control those risks
  • Undertake health surevillance for at risk individuals and retain the records
  • Review and update your risk assessment regularly.
